The 08 number itself is simply a national rate number - about 10p a minute, but not technically premium rate, although it does earn about 2p a minute for the owner. However, it's a recorded message which tells you to call a premium rate line, and there's about a minutes silence at the end of the message before it tells you the charges. I strongly suspect this would be in breach of ICSTIS regs

junk txt with 08 numbers Post a reply to this message

for all you who have received "urgent message received please call 08712402934" etc, the ICSTIS are not able ( they say ) to investigate abuses of numbers starting '08' - which could be why there has been the switch from 09 numbers. Anyone know who would handle these?

I got two of these messages today - 0871 is a premium rate number - don't ring it. If it was really that urgent and important, and they have your number, they would surely ring and speak to you - don't get caught out.

It appears to be random sequential - as I have 3 mobiles with adjacent numbers, and they wereall hiy within minites. Fortunately, all those numbers were registered with the TPS refusing to accept spam SMS, so a formal complaint has been launched that they are in breach of the regulations. I suggest you contact TPS and request your number is added to the list.
